Jimena is a traditional working village, where you can often find spontaneous authentic flamenco in the early hours of the morning. It is topped by the castle, which contains ruins of the Moorish and much older Roman castle. The views from the castle are spectacular, you can see Gibraltar and the Atlas Mountains of Africa on a clear day. The Alcornocales National Park is the largest national park in Europe and provides visitors with many opportunities for hiking, horse riding and bird watching. The cork-oak forests still provide the area with a large seasonal source of income.
